La Aguja de Cleopatra, conocida como el "Obelisco", se encuentra en el centro de la Place de la Concorde y originalmente pertenecía a la entrada del templo de Luxor. Mohamed Ali, el virrey que también proporcionó un obelisco a Inglaterra, entregó esta Aguja de Cleopatra a París a cambio de un pequeño campanario, que se iba a colocar en la ciudadela de El Cairo (y que resultó no funcionar).
