Se trata de un Pólem kilometros (Hito) de la Vía de la Libertad, construido en 1948 como un recuerdo imperecedero de la liberación de Europa.
La ruta conecta Normandía con la batalla de las Ardenas en Bastogne. El itinerario completo está en Routeyou, constituido como itinerario motorizado llamado Vía de la Libertad y como ruta ciclista con extensión en los Países Bajos (Wageningen) en diez partes llamadas VDLAV (vía de la Libertad en bicicleta).
