La Bastilla era una fortaleza que protegía el costado oriental de la ciudad de París conocida formalmente como la Bastilla Saint-Antoine o Bastida de Saint-Antoine.[1] Desempeñó un papel importante en los conflictos internos de Francia y por la mayor parte de su historia fue usada como una prisión estatal por los reyes de Francia. Fue tomada por una multitud el 14 de julio de 1789 durante la Revolución francesa, convirtiéndose en un símbolo importante del movimiento republicano francés. Tiempo después fue demolida y reemplazada por la Plaza de la Bastilla.
