Desde este puerto se cargaban las tejas producidas en Biganos en barcazas que las llevaban a todos los puertos de la cuenca a los ostricultores que recogían allí sus semillas de ostras. Este uso de los azulejos se sigue utilizando hoy en día. Con la marea baja, las vacas vadeaban el río para llegar a las praderas saladas de la isla de Malprat. Hoy en día, con su treintena de cabañas, este puerto sigue siendo un lugar muy salvaje, adornado con "cotonniers" (baccaris) y cañas, y puesto bajo la protección del Conservatorio del Espacio Litoral y de los Ríos Lacustres. El puerto cuenta con 22 muelles gestionados por la ciudad (calado de 0 a 1,20 m según las mareas, grada y casetas de pescadores). Las tiendas están a 2 km.
