Hasta la Revolución Francesa, se estableció en la ciudad un capítulo de canonesas. Un paseo por el barrio capitular permite descubrir las casas canónicas de los siglos XVI y XVIII con sus coloridas fachadas y el emplazamiento del antiguo claustro. Las placas y los escudos situados sobre las puertas de cada residencia recuerdan los nombres de las últimas canonesas que vivieron allí hasta la revolución.
A pocos pasos se encuentra una parte de la muralla medieval construida en el siglo XIII en piedra arenisca de los Vosgos (75 m de murallas y 3 torres), una de las cuales alberga el museo histórico y arqueológico de la ciudad.
