La historia de la parroquia de Canenx no está documentada, a excepción de la mención de un castillo que domina el río Douze, alrededor del cual se habría construido el pueblo. La iglesia es una fundación románica de los siglos XI o XII, de la que se conserva la nave principal y, sobre todo, la cabecera de pequeñas piedras regulares. La nave norte y probablemente el campanario se añadieron en época gótica, quizá en el siglo XV. El pequeño pórtico oeste y la sacristía son añadidos modernos y las ventanas se ampliaron o perforaron en el siglo XIX, quizá en 1856, cuando se restauró el edificio.
