The history of the parish of Canenx is undocumented, with the exception of a castle overlooking the Douze, around which the village is said to have been built. The church is a Romanesque foundation dating from the 11th or 12th century, of which the main nave and, above all, the chevet in small, regular rubble, remain. The north aisle and probably the bell tower were added in the Gothic period, perhaps in the 15th century. The small west porch and sacristy are modern additions, and the windows were enlarged or pierced in the 19th century, perhaps in 1856, when the building was restored.
