El lugar está situado al pie de la montaña sagrada del Donon, en el valle del Bruche. Durante casi 700 años, fue el yacimiento de hierro más rico de los Vosgos. La mina de Grandfontaine fue rehabilitada por el municipio en 1981 y ofrece al público un extraordinario viaje al mundo de la minería de 1800 a 1860
La visita se realiza con el equipo que se proporciona en el lugar (chanclos y casco). Un guía le llevará por casi 800 m de amplias galerías con paredes cubiertas de sulfato de cobre (azul) y neoformaciones de hidróxido de hierro en forma de estalactitas de color marrón oxidado. Las grandes cavernas inferiores, que han sido voladas, muestran la enorme cantidad de mineral (hematita y pirita) que se ha extraído. Todavía son visibles los antiguos pozos inundados que daban acceso a los seis pisos inferiores, que ahora son inaccesibles
