Der Ort liegt eingebettet am Fuße des heiligen Berges Donon im Bruche-Tal. Sie war fast 700 Jahre lang die reichste Eisenlagerstätte der Vogesen. Die 1981 von der Gemeinde neu gestaltete Mine von Grandfontaine bietet dem Publikum eine außergewöhnliche Rückkehr in die Welt des Bergbaus zwischen 1800 und 1860
Die Besichtigung erfolgt mit einer vor Ort bereitgestellten Ausrüstung (Ölzeug und Helm). Mit einem Führer können Sie fast 800 m geräumige Stollen entdecken, deren Wände mit Konkretionen aus neu gebildetem Kupfersulfat (blau) und Eisenhydroxid in Form von rostbraunen Stalaktiten bedeckt sind. In den großen, gesprengten unteren Hohlräumen kann man die enorme Menge an abgebautem Erz (Hämatit und Pyrit) erkennen. Alte überflutete Schächte sind noch sichtbar und führten zu den sechs unteren Stockwerken, die heute unzugänglich sind
