Al pie del cementerio, de forma rectangular y sin techo, el lavadero de la fuente de los muertos del siglo XIX ha sido restaurado y realzado por el Comité de Animación del Pexinois.
Colocado en la parte inferior del poblado, evita la contaminación de las aguas públicas y ahorra a los buandières la rigidez del camino que cae hasta la Sèvre Niortaise.
Sirve hasta el siglo XX, período a partir del cual se generaliza el abastecimiento de agua en cada hogar. La última lavandera profesional de Santa Pezena se llama María Magdalena Denis, apodada la «Madre Denis», «Vedette» de la «bujhaille» (detergente en patois Poitevin-saintongeais). ¡Nacida en 1893, vive más de 100 años!
