Aan de voet van het kerkhof is het rechthoekige, dakloze washuis van de 19e-eeuwse dodenfontein gerestaureerd en verbeterd door het Comité d'Animation du Pexinois
Door de ligging onder het dorp wordt de vervuiling door openbaar water vermeden en hoeven de wasvrouwen niet de steile weg af te leggen naar de Sèvre Niortaise
Het werd gebruikt tot de 20e eeuw, toen de watervoorziening algemeen werd in elk huis. De laatste professionele wasvrouw in Sainte-Pezenne was Marie-Madeleine Denis, bijgenaamd "Mère Denis", "Vedette" van de "bujhaille" (wasserij in het Poitevin-Saintonge patois). Geboren in 1893, werd ze meer dan 100 jaar oud!
