1813-1814. El pueblo vasco devastado por las tropas napoleónicas. Derrotadas por Wellington en Gazteiz-Vitoria el 21 de junio de 1813, las tropas napoleónicas de Portugal y España cruzan los pasos entre Les Aldudes y Hendaya. Se enfrentaron 2 ejércitos, 112.000 soldados de la coalición (británicos, españoles, portugueses de Wellington) y 68.000 soldados napoleónicos al mando del mariscal Soult en este pequeño territorio (11.000 muertos). Los pueblos fueron saqueados y el bosque quemado. Los pueblos tardaron 30 años en recuperarse de esta guerra. El País Vasco soportó muy bien la presencia de las disciplinadas tropas que Wellington dejó atrás hasta el armisticio. Este monumento atestigua el sufrimiento del pueblo vasco.
