1813-1814. Il popolo basco devastato dalle truppe napoleoniche. Sconfitte da Wellington a Gazteiz-Vitoria il 21 giugno 1813, le truppe napoleoniche portoghesi e spagnole attraversano i passi tra Les Aldudes e Hendaye. Si scontrarono 2 eserciti, 112.000 soldati della coalizione (britannici, spagnoli, portoghesi di Wellington) e 68.000 soldati napoleonici sotto il maresciallo Soult in questo piccolo territorio (11.000 morti). I villaggi furono saccheggiati e la foresta bruciata. I villaggi impiegarono 30 anni per riprendersi da questa guerra. I Paesi Baschi hanno sopportato molto bene la presenza delle truppe disciplinate che Wellington ha lasciato fino all'armistizio. Questo monumento testimonia la sofferenza del popolo basco.
