El canal de los molinos, que va de Vieux-Thann a Wittelsheim, existe desde la Edad Media, pero no se construyó hasta 1854 y fue gestionado por el sindicato de molineros.
En el siglo XIX, hacía funcionar una docena de molinos y proporcionaba la energía hidráulica necesaria para el funcionamiento de la industria artesanal: molinos harineros, almazaras, papeleras, etc., así como las industrias textiles y mecánicas de Cernay y Uffholtz (pueblo vecino situado a 2 km).
