Fra Vieux-Thann til Wittelsheim har industrikanalen eksisteret siden middelalderen, men den blev først reguleret i 1854 og blev drevet af syndikatet for industriudøvere. I det 19. århundrede drev den omkring ti møller og leverede den hydrauliske kraft, der var nødvendig for håndværk: møller, oliekompressor, papirfabrikker ... samt tekstil- og maskinindustrien i Cernay og Uffholtz (nabo landsby 2 km væk). Den er den røde tråd i turen "På sporene af Cernays industrihistorie - langs industrikanalen", der fører dig tilbage til en anden tid og afslører Cernay på en måde, du ikke ville have forestillet dig! Her finder vi maskinbygning, blegning af lærreder, papirfabrikker, spinding, vævning men også den kemiske industri...
