Los trabajadores de la madera dura trabajaban en el corazón del bosque de octubre a junio, refugiándose en una cabaña cubierta de corteza que ellos mismos construían al principio de la temporada. La cabaña servía de taller, comedor y también de dormitorio para el trabajador. Había un banco en el centro para cortar la madera, herramientas colgadas del armazón, una silla y una chimenea en el suelo. La cabaña del cortador de hojas del estanque de Masselièvre se restauró hace dos años y es un lugar muy agradable para hacer un picnic, al abrigo del agua.
