Adolphe Clément, un visionario autodidacta, fundó un poderoso imperio industrial e innovó en el sector del transporte.
En junio de 1894, mandó construir la fábrica de Mézières , junto a una estatua del caballero Bayard . En 1911, el tribunal civil de Compiègne autorizó a Adolphe a añadir "Bayard", símbolo de valentía y lealtad, a su apellido. La fábrica evolucionó a lo largo de las guerras y las décadas, pasando de la producción de triciclos a la fabricación de bombas y granadas , antes de volver a sus raíces en la producción de automóviles .
En 1975, Dumont, director general desde 1937 y nieto de Adolphe Clément, dimitió. La empresa cesó sus actividades en 1984.
Hasta el año 2028 se pretende crear aquí " un centro de atracción turística, económica y cultural de más de 10.000 m²".
