El escaño se utilizó por primera vez para una elección solo en Irlanda del Norte para la Asamblea de Irlanda del Norte en 1973. Los miembros fueron elegidos luego de la circunscripción para la Convención Constitucional de 1975 y la Asamblea de 1982. Después de que la Asamblea se disolvió en 1986, la circunscripción no se volvió a utilizar, siendo su área representada por partes de Newry y Armagh y Upper Bann.
