La isla de Wight es una autoridad unitaria[1][2] y la isla más grande de Inglaterra con 348 km² situada en la costa sur frente a la ciudad de Southampton. Está separada de Gran Bretaña por un estrecho conocido como Solent.
Coloquialmente es conocida como "La Isla" por sus habitantes. Su población en el año 2008 era aproximadamente de 140.000 habitantes.
