El Castillo de Leeds, situado en 500 acres de parque en medio del campo de Kent, toma su nombre no de la ciudad de Leeds, sino de su primer propietario, un hombre llamado Leed, o Ledian, que se construyó un castillo de madera en 857. El primer castillo de piedra fue construido en 1119 en una isla en el lago, y fue posteriormente reconstruido y ampliado por Eduardo I, quien añadió un conjunto de murallas exteriores, un barbican y la 'gloriette', una torre en forma de D construida en la más pequeña de las dos islas del lago.
