La Academia Rothesay tiene 3 escuelas primarias asociadas: la Escuela Primaria Rothesay y la Escuela Primaria de St. Andrew en Rothesay y la Escuela Primaria North Bute en Port Bannatyne.
La escuela como institución se abrió por primera vez en 1870, reemplazando a la anterior Croft Lodge y a una escuela religiosa. El edificio victoriano original, que da al puerto de Rothesay, fue ampliado y modernizado en 1910 y nuevamente en 1938. Se quemó hasta los cimientos en 1954 y fue reemplazado por un edificio de arquitectura contemporánea, que se inauguró en 1959. El edificio actual en Townhead data de 2007, en un sitio de campus conjunto con la Escuela Primaria Rothesay y el Colegio Argyll. Es uno de un lote de campus conjuntos construidos en el oeste de Escocia entre 2005 y 2009.
