La batalla de Ashdown fue un acontecimiento bélico que tuvo lugar el 8 de enero de 871 en Berkshire . Los contendientes fueron los daneses del Gran ejército pagano liderados por los caudillos vikingos Bagsecg y Halfdan Ragnarsson junto a cinco jarls, por un lado, y el rey Etelredo I de Wessex y su joven hermano, el príncipe Alfredo con solo 21 años en el otro bando con sus sajones.
