Un monumento a la última invasión extranjera de este país, erigido en 1897. Después del estallido de la guerra entre Gran Bretaña y Francia en 1793, el general Lazare Hoche decidió llevar la guerra al suelo británico. En 1796 planeó una invasión a gran escala de Irlanda, que contaría con el apoyo de los Irlandeses Unidos. Se organizó una expedición de 15,000 hombres y para evitar el envío de refuerzos británicos a Irlanda y crear pánico en el continente se planificaron dos expediciones más pequeñas.
