Ein Denkmal für die letzte ausländische Invasion dieses Landes, errichtet 1897. Nach dem Ausbruch des Krieges zwischen Großbritannien und Frankreich im Jahr 1793 beschloss General Lazare Hoche, den Krieg auf britischem Boden zu führen. 1796 plante er eine umfassende Invasion Irlands, die von den United Irishmen unterstützt werden sollte. Eine Expedition von 15.000 Mann wurde organisiert, und um zu verhindern, dass britische Verstärkung nach Irland geschickt wurde, und um Panik auf dem Festland zu erzeugen, wurden zwei kleinere Expeditionen geplant.
