El Pozo Oinnousai es un abismo submarino que alcanza la parte más profunda del Mediterráneo, a 5.121 m. Eso es solo 146 metros menos que el punto más profundo del Mar Mediterráneo, conocido como el Calypso Deep. Aquí se lleva a cabo el experimento "NESTOR" y tiene que ver con los neutrinos y el pasado del universo. Los datos, incluidos los señales, se están transmitiendo a la estación costera en Methoni a través de un cable electroóptico de 30 km tendido en el lecho marino. Esta es la primera vez que se han obtenido datos de "física" continuos y en tiempo real desde tal profundidad, y representa un paso importante hacia un detector de neutrinos de un kilómetro cúbico. El NESTOR (Telescopio Submarino de Neutrinos Ampliado con Investigación Oceanográfica) consistirá finalmente en una torre con 12 pisos de 32 m de diámetro.
