En el censo 2011 el total de población de la ciudad fue de 59 141 habitantes, distribuidos en las siguientes localidades:[1]
La Fortaleza de Brod, del período barroco, fue construida durante el Imperio Austro-Húngaro para servir de fortaleza contra el Imperio Otomano, que estaba situado en la otra orilla del río Sava. Es de estilo vaubano, y lleva el nombre de uno de los mejores expertos europeos en la construcción de fortificaciones en los siglos XVII y XVIII. Es una de las fortalezas mejor conservadas de Europa, y también una de las más grandes de la antigua frontera militar austro-húngara. En cierto modo, es el anverso continental del Palacio de Diocleciano en Split, por su monumentalidad.
