El dolmen data del Neolítico, alrededor del 3000 a.C. Se utilizó para enterramientos en los que se colocaban los restos cremados en la tumba, a menudo acompañados de muebles funerarios, incluyendo herramientas, cuentas y cerámica. La tumba puede estar alineada de tal manera que su portal apunte hacia Slieve Gullion y/o hacia el sol poniente en el solsticio de verano.
