Galatina, es una ciudad italiana, de aproximadamente 27.710 habitantes localizada en la región de Apulia, en la zona sur de la provincia de Lecce, es famosa por su arquitectura barroca y sus imponentes catedrales.
Desde épocas remotas fue un principal foco de comercio, debido a su cercanía con el Mar Mediterráneo, y su posición ventajosa, para adentrarse en el país.
En 1390 Raimondello del Balzo Orsini, un personaje muy ilustre de esa época, mandó edificar una imponente catedral que fuera sinónimo del esplendor de su nación, con una construcción muy fina, tiempo después se terminó la catedral conocida como :Santa Caterina d'Alessandria.
