Villa Aurea fue la residencia del capitán del ejército inglés Sir Alexander Hardcastle de 1925 a 1932 .
De hecho, decidió fijar su residencia en esta ciudad, donde vivió hasta su muerte en 1933. Para ello, el capitán compró una hermosa villa de campo, situada entre el Templo de la Concordia y el de Hércules, a la que llamó Villa Dorada . porque está cerca de la puerta del mismo nombre de las antiguas fortificaciones.
El jardín de la villa, rico en vegetación, se superpone en parte con la necrópolis paleocristiana de la que son visibles dos hipogeos (espacios subterráneos) y algunas tumbas (siglos III-VI d.C.).
Hoy en día, Villa Aurea alberga algunas de las oficinas técnicas y representativas del parque y alberga exposiciones . Está rodeado por un frondoso jardín con típica y exuberante vegetación mediterránea y presencia de numerosas especies exóticas.
