La plaza llamada Place de Clairefontaine se encuentra en el corazón de la ciudad de Luxemburgo, entre la catedral de Nuestra Señora y la Chamber. A finales de la década de 1980, la plaza fue rediseñada como parte de una extensa restauración y trabajos de reconstrucción en el barrio circundante. Históricamente, aquí se encontraba la Rue de Clairefontaine, que además llevaba el nombre alemán de Badenburgerstrasse o Bardenburgergasse, en honor a un refugio que formaba parte de la antigua abadía de Clairefontaine en Arel y que fue demolido en 1933.
