The square known as Place de Clairefontaine is located in the heart of the city of Luxembourg between the Cathedral of Our Lady and the Chamber. In the late 1980s, the square was redesigned as part of extensive restoration and reconstruction work in the surrounding neighborhood. Historically, the Rue de Clairefontaine could be found here, which also bore the German names Badenburgerstrasse and Bardenburgergasse, named after a refuge that belonged to the former abbey of Clairefontaine near Arel and was demolished in 1933.
