El banco recibió su nombre en 1977 después de que Deutsche Bank Luxembourg S.A. se convirtiera en el accionista mayoritario de Banque Mathieu Frères, fundada en 1937 y antecesora de la Banque de Luxembourg. En 2002, Deutsche Bank vende su participación de casi el 30% al grupo francés Crédit Industriel et Commercial, filial de Crédit Mutuel, el cuarto banco de Francia que tiene la forma de un banco cooperativo.
