Esch-sur-Sûre solo tiene 250 habitantes. Está escondido entre montañas y, como una especie de islote, está rodeado por el río Sûre. Se dice que es uno de los pueblos más bonitos del Gran Ducado. Una torre truncada y algunos otros restos de un castillo medieval de 927 dominan el paisaje. Esch estuvo aislado durante mucho tiempo, y para sacarlo de su aislamiento, se tuvo que excavar un túnel en 1850. En 1954 se construyó un segundo túnel que lleva al embalse cercano. Ese embalse está tan integrado en el paisaje que parece una capricho de la naturaleza, pero se creó artificialmente en los años sesenta para el suministro de agua potable.
