Esch-sur-Sûre conta solo 250 abitanti. Si trova nascosta tra le montagne ed è, come una sorta di isolotto, circondata dal fiume Sûre. È considerato uno dei villaggi più belli del Granducato. Una torre tronca e alcune altre rovine di un castello medievale del 927 dominano il paesaggio. Esch è rimasta isolata per lungo tempo e, per uscirne, nel 1850 si è dovuto scavare un tunnel. Nel 1954 è stato realizzato un secondo tunnel, che porta al vicino bacino idrico. Quel lago è così integrato nel paesaggio che sembra un capriccio della natura, ma è stato realizzato artificialmente negli anni '60 per la fornitura di acqua potabile.
