La neurocientífica Ineke van der Ham de la Universidad de Leiden publicó en 2018 su estudio que demostró lo siguiente: "Hombres y mujeres pueden leer mapas igual de bien". Los hombres y los mayores piensan que son mejores en la lectura de mapas de lo que realmente son. Mientras que las mujeres tienden a subestimar sus habilidades. Esto comienza desde la pubertad. También los chicos comienzan a sobreestimar sus propias habilidades en ese momento. Probablemente porque los estereotipos a partir de esa edad influyen en la autoimagen.
