La catedral de Utrecht es una de las pocas iglesias por las que se puede pasear o andar en bicicleta.
La Catedral de Utrecht fue construida sobre el Castellum Romanum. La primera piedra de esta versión gótica de la iglesia fue colocada por el obispo Hendrik de Vianden en 1254. La construcción duraría hasta 1517.
La gloria de la catedral no fue duradera. Debido a la reforma, los ingresos colapsaron y el mantenimiento también se volvió difícil.
En 1847 se retiraron los restos de la nave. En este lugar ahora se encuentra la plaza de la catedral, que separa la torre del resto de la iglesia. Así que ofrece una perspectiva excepcional de esta iglesia. A pesar de las adversidades, esta es una de las más bellas muestras de gótico en los Países Bajos.
