La cattedrale di Utrecht è una delle poche chiese in cui è possibile passeggiare o andare in bicicletta.
La cattedrale di Utrecht fu costruita sul Castellum Romanum. La prima pietra di questa versione gotica della chiesa fu posata dal vescovo Enrico di Vianden nel 1254. I lavori durarono fino al 1517.
La gloria della cattedrale non fu duratura. A causa della riforma, i proventi crollarono e anche la manutenzione divenne difficile.
Nel 1847 furono rimossi i resti della nave centrale. In questo luogo ora si trova il domplein, che separa la torre dal resto della chiesa. Offre quindi una prospettiva eccezionale su questa chiesa. Nonostante le avversità, questa è una delle più belle espressioni di gotico presente nei Paesi Bassi.
