El nombre 'Baarlo' significa 'Bosque Desolado' (Baar=bar y Lo(o)=bosque). La iglesia de Baarlo fue demolida, pero el cementerio sigue existiendo. Aquí yace el maestro J. de Dood, que fue el último maestro en el pedazo de tierra 'Holanda'. Cuando él estaba caminando, se decía: 'la muerte camina por Holanda'. Después de su muerte en 1892, la escuelita fue trasladada a 'Wetering', que está más adelante.
