Ouddorp es principalmente un popular balneario con una amplia y larga playa situada en una hermosa zona de dunas.
Es posible que el pueblo haya surgido ya en el año 900. Con eso, Ouddorp es con mucho el pueblo más antiguo de Goeree-Overflakkee. La iglesia del pueblo está dedicada a San Martín. En 1418 ocurre un saqueo y un incendio por parte del duque Juan de Brabant durante las disputas de Hoekse y Kabeljauwse, y en 1490 por el noble Francisco de Brederode y el señor Juan de Naaldwijk. Alrededor de 1594, en Ouddorp se habla de una 'comunidad reformada neerlandesa'. Hoy en día, el pueblo cuenta con seis comunidades religiosas.
Ouddorp ha sido durante mucho tiempo una comunidad muy cerrada. El dialecto goerees (hablado en Ouddorp y Goedereede) está muy alejado del holandés y es completamente zeelandés. La proporción de hablantes de dialecto en Ouddorp es muy alta (la más alta de todo Goeree-Overflakkee),
