Ouddorp è prima di tutto una popolare località balneare con una lunga e ampia spiaggia situata in una splendida zona di dune.
È possibile che il villaggio sia nato già nell'anno 900. Così, Ouddorp è di gran lunga il villaggio più antico di Goeree-Overflakkee. La chiesa del villaggio è dedicata a San Martino. Nel 1418 avviene un saccheggio e un'incendio da parte del duca Giovanni di Brabante durante le controversie di Hoekse e Kabeljauwse, e nel 1490 da parte di Jonker Francesco di Brederode e del Signor Giovanni di Naaldwijk. Intorno al 1594 a Ouddorp c'era una 'comunità riformata olandese'. Oggi il villaggio conta sei comunità ecclesiastiche.
Ouddorp è stata a lungo una comunità molto chiusa. Il dialetto goeree (parlato a Ouddorp e Goedereede) si discosta notevolmente dall'olandese ed è completamente Zeeuws. La percentuale di parlanti dialetto a Ouddorp è molto alta (la più alta di tutto Goeree-Overflakkee),
