Escharen es un pueblo situado al sur de la ciudad fortificada de Grave, entre el Mosa y el Raam, en tierras elevadas, de las que quizás derive su nombre. Escharen es parte del municipio de Land van Cuijk. En la lengua popular, Escharen se llama Esteren. Es un antiguo municipio que también incluía Langenboom, que se formó mucho después. En 1942, el municipio se dividió; Escharen se unió al municipio de Grave y Langenboom al municipio de Mill y Sint Hubert. El 1 de enero de 2021, Escharen contaba con 1.185 habitantes.
