En Baarle-Nassau hubo un caso de asesinato muy notable en el que el cuerpo fue encontrado en un ataúd exactamente en la frontera. La frontera pasa aquí a través de una villa, por una habitación de niños. Exactamente en esa habitación de niños fue encontrado el ataúd con el cuerpo dentro.
En este caso, un agrimensor tuvo que determinar en qué país estaba más la caja, lo que determinó qué país llevaría a cabo la investigación; resultó ser los Países Bajos.
La bielorrusa Katrina Kanyak fue encontrada muerta el 18 de febrero de 2008 en un contenedor de basura escondido en un ataúd de madera en la sala de juegos de la vivienda en Hoogbraak en Baarle-Hertog.
