In Baarle-Nassau was er een zeer merkwaardige moordzaak waarbij het lijk in een kist exact op de grens gevonden werd. De grens loopt hier door een villa, door een kinderkamer. Exact in die kinderkamer werd de kist gevonden met daar het lijk in.
Bij deze zaak moest een landmeter bepalen in welk land de kist het meest stond, wat bepaalde welk land het onderzoek zou voeren; dat bleek Nederland te zijn.
De Wit-Russische Katrina Kanyak werd op 18 februari 2008 dood aangetroffen in een afvalcontainer verstopt in een houten kist op de speelkamer van de woning aan Hoogbraak in Baarle-Hertog.
