Se encuentra al noroeste de Workum, al suroeste de Parrega y al sureste de Gaast. El núcleo del pueblo se sitúa en el Djippert, que lo conecta con el Dijkvaart. El dijkvaart fluye a lo largo del antiguo dique de Zuiderzee. En Ferwoude y Workum hay una gran área fuera del dique a lo largo del Zeedijk antes de que comience el IJsselmeer. En 2021, el pueblo contaba con 225 habitantes. El pueblo también incluye las aldeas de Doniaburen, Scharneburen y Wonneburen.
