El pueblo, con 10.440 habitantes, es el lugar más grande del municipio de Oude IJsselstreek. Hasta el 1 de enero de 2005, Ulft pertenecía al municipio de Gendringen. Con una reorganización municipal, los municipios de Gendringen y Wisch se unieron bajo el nombre de Oude IJsselstreek. Ulft, además del pueblo del mismo nombre, se compone de dos barrios: Oer y De Pol. Oer es el apodo para el norte de Ulft, y se le llama así debido al hierro en el suelo. En Oer también estaba la DRU, una fundición de hierro. La DRU se mudó en 2003 a Duiven y ahora tiene una ubicación en la A12. En el antiguo edificio de la DRU, ahora llamado DRU Cultuurfabriek, se alberga una radio y estudio de televisión, biblioteca, galería de arte, restaurante, sala de conciertos, escuela de música, diversas asociaciones, salas de conferencias y teatro. La pareja real visitó este lugar el martes 6 de mayo de 2014.
