Il villaggio è con 10.440 abitanti il comune più grande del comune di Oude IJsselstreek. Fino al 1° gennaio 2005 Ulft faceva parte del comune di Gendringen. Con una fusione municipale, i comuni di Gendringen e Wisch si sono uniti sotto il nome di Oude IJsselstreek. Ulft è composto, oltre che dal comune omonimo, da due frazioni: Oer e De Pol. Oer è il soprannome del nord di Ulft e prende questo nome a causa del ferro nel terreno. A Oer si trovava anche la DRU, una fonderia di ferro. La DRU si è trasferita a Duiven nel 2003 e ora ha una sede lungo l'A12. Nell'antico edificio della DRU, oggi chiamato DRU Cultuurfabriek, sono ospitati uno studio radio e TV, una biblioteca, una galleria d'arte, un ristorante, una sala concerti, una scuola di musica, diverse associazioni, sale conferenze e un teatro. La coppia reale ha fatto visita qui martedì 6 maggio 2014.
