Elim es una aldea en el municipio de Hoogeveen, situado en la provincia neerlandesa de Drenthe. La aldea cuenta con aproximadamente 2.335 habitantes. Elim era, como muchos otros lugares de los alrededores, originalmente una zona pantanosa intransitable. A partir de 1631, el territorio sobre el cual se encuentran Elim y otras aldeas pantanosas de los alrededores, fue propiedad de la Compañía de las 5000 morgadas. Después de que el área fue adquirida por la Compañía Holandesa, se le dio el nombre de Hollandscheveld. En la década de 1780 del siglo XVIII comenzó la extracción de turba en el área donde hoy se encuentra Elim. El año 1786 se considera la fecha de nacimiento de Elim, ya que fue entonces cuando se asentaron definitivamente los pobladores.
