IJlst es una ciudad en el municipio de Súdwest-Fryslân, en la provincia holandesa de Frisia, que se encuentra al norte de Heeg y al suroeste de la ciudad más grande de Sneek. A través de la ciudad fluye el río Geeuw, que confluye en la ciudad con el río Ee. El Geeuw forma parte de la conexión Sneekermeer - Sneek - IJlst - Heeg - Heegermeer y es, especialmente en verano, una vía fluvial muy transitada.
