En el siglo XVIII se fundaron decenas de fincas en los alrededores de Ámsterdam. Una de ellas es Waterland. Las casas de campo se habitaban principalmente durante los meses de verano, cuando los canales de Ámsterdam apestaban. La finca Waterland consta de un área natural de 29 hectáreas. En 2000 se fundó una organización para preservar la casa de campo construida entre 1742 y 1766 y diseñada por Pieter de Swart. Este edificio principal, con anexos y el diseño del parque, ha sido declarado monumento nacional. Está a disposición como lugar de bodas y se pueden llevar a cabo eventos.
