Im 18. Jahrhundert wurden viele Dutzende Landgüter in der Umgebung von Amsterdam gegründet. Eines davon ist Waterland. Die Sommerhäuser wurden vor allem in den Sommermonaten bewohnt, als die Kanäle in Amsterdam stanken. Das Landgut Waterland besteht aus einem Naturschutzgebiet von 29 Hektar Fläche. Im Jahr 2000 wurde eine Stiftung gegründet, um das in der Zeit von 1742-1766 gebaute und von Pieter de Swart entworfene Herrenhaus zu erhalten. Dieses Hauptgebäude mit Nebengebäuden und der Parkanlage sind als Rijksmonument anerkannt. Es steht als Hochzeitslocation zur Verfügung und es können Veranstaltungen stattfinden.
